EIGHTH ‘SANDSATION’ INTERNATIONAL SAND SCULPTURE FESTIVAL
With “Head in the Sand” as their theme, more than 20 sand artists (or ‘carvers’) are transforming Berlin into a giant sandpit. This year the German capital can enjoy the unusual sand sculptures along the bank of the River Spree in Friedrichshain. Workshops, tombolas and a huge variety of eateries complete the programme. The chance to view erection of the sculptures between 6 and 9 June should also prove enthralling. The best of these sandy works will receive awards from a jury on 10 June.

These spectacular horse races have had a firm place as one of the lasting traditions of Italian culture ever since the 14th century. CARNIVAL IN NOTTING HILL
This street party is among the largest in Europe. Carnival hits the Notting Hill district once a year. As around half a million people dance to Caribbean rhythms and glittering processions and floats wend their way through the streets, there’s no longer much difference from Rio. Various live acts round off the programme.

RUDOLF STINGEL LIVE
The Rudolf Stingel Live exhibition has drawn such a big attendance that it has now been extended: Works by the artist (born in the South Tyrol in 1956) will remain on display at the Neue Nationalgalerie in Berlin until 22 August. Stingel’s installations bathe the character of the building in a different atmosphere in a unique manner. In addition, the show includes new paintings by the artist. The supporting programme is also spellbinding, with Hip-Hop world champions dancing to Johann Sebastian Bach’s The Well-Tempered Clavier.
